The Koolu W.E. Phone is a new OpenSource cell phone designed for business professionals.

This fast, full-featured and eco-friendly handset will be available at a price of C$99 for Google Apps subscribers only. The limited initial release for developers will take place in March, while the consumer release is scheduled for summer 2008.

Second open-source Linux phone Launched

The new FIC Neo1973 is the first mobile phone running the OpenMoko open-source OS. It allows developers to create their own mobile Linux applications. The device was launched on Monday, and will become the second fully accessible Linux phone after the Trolltech Greenphone.

The Neo1973 is a quad-band GSM handset featuring a touch-screen display, Bluetooth 2.

Sun makes J2ME an open-source product

Sun Microsystems makes available an open-sourced J2ME, the java edition that gives mobile phones the possibility to download and use applications such as games, email programs, web browsers.

Sun is going to make Java Standard Edition (JSE) and Java Micro Edition (J2ME) which opens both these platforms for independent software development from just about anyone.
