Anyone can now monitor air pollution levels in a specific location directly from their mobile phones. The new cell phone add-on, called "Squirrel", measures the level of carbon monoxide and ozone polluting substances in the surrounding air and displays the results on the phone's screen. All the gathered data is also transferred to an Internet database which monitors worldwide pollution.

The world's first book written entirely using a mobile phone has just been published on Lulu.com, a site where anyone can publish their own book for print. Its author, Robert Bernocco, wrote a 384 page science fiction novel in just 17 days using only a Nokia 6630 cell phone, with the help of T9. The novel was entitled "Compagni di Viaggo", or "Fellow Travelers" in English.

Here is a new weird-looking concept phone from BenQ-Siemens, the SL98 Slider. The handset looks more like a pocket calculator, with the small external display to show caller information and other stuff. Its main screen slides out on the top, just like the keypad on a standard slider. It feels pretty unusual, to be honest. Once the display is out, one can take advantage of a digicam located on the back of the screen.

Motorola plans to use Microvision's technology to create a phone with a tiny projector on board. The Pico Projector will use a small laser-based DLP display engine to project a wide 15" (854x480) picture onto a surface about half a meter away. Verizon Wireless customers can now record and upload videos directly to YouTube using MMS service. To use this new feature all registered users must update their YouTube accounts by creating a mobile profile . Then to upload the video one must send an MMS** to YTUBE (98823). Videos will post live in just minutes.

Sony Ericsson has released its new SO903iTV mobile phone in Japan. This good looking clamshell is optimized for TV viewing, featuring an adjustable 3" WQVGA TFT widescreen display and Sony's Mobile BRAVIA engine for superior TV pictures on-the-go. You can also record your favorite TV programs onto a 2GB memory card for later viewing.

BoyGenius team unveiled some photos and information on the yet unannounced Motorola “Marco” cell phone. The new slider is most likely an updated version of the RIZR Z3.

It features Wi-Fi support, lacking on the Z3, and runs on JUIX (Java-Linux) OS, used in the ROKR Z6 and RAZR V8.
