On-board mobile phone system for Airbus

Airbus planes will soon have cell-phone systems on-board. A GSM on-board system was recently approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and claims to be fully compatible with the aircraft environment.

This is a major step in the development of OnAir service (a joint venture between Airbus and SITA) that will enable passengers to use their BlackBerry-type devices and mobile phones during flights in Europe.

Men and Women - who talks more? AT&T's Poll on Cell Phone Usage

The most recent annual survey on cell phone usage conducted by International Communications Research for AT&T in May 2007 indicates that women talk on the mobile phone almost as much as men in comparison with previous years. There is only 5 min difference in average talk time - 458 minutes for men and 453 minutes for women.

The poll was conducted among 1,006 people and also showed that 45% of the respondents often use text messaging, 44% use camera, 17% play mobile games and 11% access wireless Web and e-mail.

Solar-Powered Cell Phone

Chinese Hi-Tech Wealth announced that they have produced the world's first solar-powered cell phone. This clamshell phone features scale-like solar panels on its top side and can be charged by using various sources of light, first of all sunlight. Other companies are still working on such products.

There are more then 400 million mobile phones in China, so by using solar-powered handsets the overall consumption of electricity noticeably reduces.
