Rogers Released Samsung Galaxy Spica

Rogers has announced the availability of the Android 1.5 powered Samsung i5700 Galaxy Spica. The phone is available now for CAD $79.99 on a standard 3-year deal, or CAD $399.99 is you decide to buy it outright. The company also said the handset will receive an Android 2.1 update sometime in the near future, which is definitely good news.

Rogers to launch the Samsung Galaxy Spica for $79.99

And here's another Android handset for Canadian market, the Samsung Galaxy Spica, which was unveiled this past November. It will be available from Rogers at a price of $79.99 on a 3-year contract or for $449.99, if you choose the contract-free option.

Rogers Now Offers LG Pop, Fido gets Sony Ericsson Naite

Two Canadian carriers Rogers and Fido have each started offering an entry-level handset to their customers.

Rogers got the LG Pop - a solar powered handset with a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen and a 3Mpix camera - which is now available for CAD $19.99 (about $19) on 3-year contract or CAD $174.99 ($166) commitment-free.

Fido offers the GreenHeart-branded Sony Ericsson Naite - a "green" low-end cell phone with a 2Mpix camera, triband 3G support and integrated FM radio - which costs just $25 on a 2-year deal.

HTC Magic+ from Rogers

Rogers and HTC announced an upgraded version of the HTC Magic, whitch has the same name with a (+) sign in the end. The HTC Magic+ is almost the same as the original, except that it comes with a much-needed 3.5 mm jack, and features HTC's Sense UI on top of the Android 1.5 OS (later upgradeable). So as you can see, there's no point in buying this if you already own the first model.

Acer Liquid e coming to Rogers

Reportedly, Rogers will be the first carrier in North America to offer Acer's new Liquid e phone (which is also the first Android 2.1 handset in Canada) when it's out this Spring. Still no indication of a price or exact release date, but Rogers is promising to say more as that approaches.

Rogers releases fixes for 911 calls with Dream and Magic

Rogers has issued a fix for the 911 problem we talked about earlier for its HTC Dream and Magic handsets. Affected customers have received one month's worth of data and HTC's Sence UI with the new update. How nice of them!

Edit: the update is so "mandatory" that the company decided to disable internet access to non-upgraders.

Rogers' HTC Magic has joined the HTC Dream with its "no 911 calls with GPS turned on" problem, and has been pulled from store shelves as well. Until Rogers, Google or HTC release a proper fix, we suggest you to disable GPS on your handset.
