Sprint announced that starting July 13th its QChat-based handsets (Sanyo PRO-200 and PRO-700, Samsung Z400, and LG LX40) will become available in 14 additional markets, including:

• Phoenix, Ariz.;
• Upper Central Valley, Calif.;
• East Kentucky;
• Maine;
• Minnesota;
• Missouri;
• New Hampshire;
• Buffalo, N.

KDDI, the third largest cellular operator in Japan announced its Summer 2008 collection of mobile handsets. A good reason to fly to Japan this summer, if you need a new phone.

Here's the list of the available devices:

Sprint has released the Sanyo Katana LX, a nice replacement to the older Katana II available for the same $49.99 with a contract after rebates.

Sprint now offers two new phones from Sanyo called Pro-200 and Pro-700, which support the carrier's Push-to-talk over cellular technology.

Apart from that the two handsets also support Qualcomm’s QChat technology, Group Connect, and remote contact information management via the Sprint Mobile Sync online tool.

• The Sanyo Pro-200 has a slimmer silver-coated body and costs $49.

FCC has unveiled a new, supposedly low-end handset from Sanyo called Katana LX.

It is a clamshell phone with no camera, no external display, no microSD slot, but equipped with Bluetooth and a headset jack.

Kyocera has purchased Sanyo's unprofitable mobile division for $375 million; this includes Sanyo's handset manufacturing operations and sales channels in Japan and other countries.

However, the manufacturer's brand won't be changed. This way Kyocera hopes to expand its penetration in foreign markets, especially U.

This is the new SAN168 mobile phone from SANYO.

At the first glance one might think that this is just some toy from China, and it definitely looks like one, but no... it is Sanyo, and it is ugly. Features include a 2.4" 260K QVGA color touch-screen, A2DP, 2Mpix camera, stereo speakers and microSD support.

SANYO has presented at CES their new "ultra-rugged" (as they call it) GPS-enabled cell phone, named SCP-7050.

The handset is fully "compliant with military standard 810F for dust, shock, and vibration" and is a great companion for those working in mobile field operations. Besides autonomous GPS the phone also supports Java MVM, which allows to run several Java applications at a time.

The recently launched Sanyo S1 will also be available form Sprint starting January 2008.

Briefly about the phone: it is a small, thin, light (just 2.5 oz.) and very stylish cell phone offering decent technical specifications and cool features, like business and parental controls, as well as compatibility with various Sprint services.

RadioShack retail store network started offering the new Sanyo S1.

This slim candybar phone supports Sprint Vision services and Java applications, and comes with Bluetooth that supports dial-up networking, speakerphone, and uses microUSB connection for charging and data transfer.

Sprint, S1's official carrier, won't be selling the handset through its retailers until January.
