According to Digitimes, Acer plans to announce its first smartphone lineup in Q1 2009. The manufacturer is currently hiring more employees for its mobile handset unit. The first target markets will be Western Europe and Russia.

Here's a cool new concept model for the Nokia's N series, the N-XT, designed by Chris from Symbian Freak. The most noticeable feature here is the phone's sliding and swiveling touchscreen. The concept is public, so Nokia could very well pick it up.
The imagined features include:
- 4.1" full-touch display with a WVGA 480 x 800 resolution and 16M colors;
- Symbian S60 5th Edition Touch interface;
- 8-way D-pad;
- quad-band WCDMA connectivity;

A new smartphone from Asus has been leaked today. It's called Glaxy7 and has a pretty impressive feature set, which is not yet confirmed but is very likely.

A little while ago ASUS has announced the availability of the Windows Mobile 6.1 firmware update for its P527 smartphone, but only today they've decideded to leave a download link on their website. So start upgrading!
Besides updating the OS, the new ROM has a number of functionality improvements, including fixed date and time bug, improved playback of multimedia files, fixed call bug, and upgraded functionality of the GSM/EDGE modem.

According to CNet Asia, Samsung will soon release the white version of its Omnia SGH-i900 windows mobile smartphone in Singapore. However, the new color will be applied only to the back panel, the fron panel will retain the original design.
In addition, a new firmware build for the Omnia will also be released this week in Singapore, and will include some new widget add-ons and chinese text input.

This one is probably Chinese... Clearly a rip off device, this handset steals the branding from OQO (manufacturer is not OQO, according to UMPC Portal), while at the same time imitates the design of some of the Palm’s popular smartphones. But the main thing is that the OQO G900 runs Windows Mobile 6.1. How they managed to get a license from Microsoft is a mistery, but it wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a modified version, taken from another handset.
