Sprint announced today that the name Nextel Direct Connect will represent Sprint's product portfolio of push-to-talk service and devices, regardless of network platform or device type. Additionally, Sprint plans to expand the Nextel Direct Connect portfolio in early 2008 with new device choices and capabilities, giving customers a wider variety of phones to meet their productivity needs.

Sprint has recently announced the new LG LX160 mobile phone, an updated version of the previous LX150 model. This clamshell combines stylish design with all the essential features, including Bluetooth support, one-touch speakerphone, voice-activated dialing and a dedicated text messaging key, for a very affordable price.

Sprint announced the new HTC PPC-6800 Mogul smartphone is the successor for the older PPC-6700 model, and is targeted at business users. This one is probably the most powerful business communicator available for Sprint. The Mogul specs are as following:

•  Wi-Fi 802.

Check out these two new Motorola walkie-talkie phones for Sprint, called the ic602 and i335.

The ic602 is a successor to the Blend/Buzz line of CDMA/iDEN hybrid phones. It comes in a clamshell design and features a digicam added to the Buzz's monochrome secondary display.

Sprint and Google are working together on a new mobile Internet portal, which uses WiMax wireless technology to offer Web search and social networking. Sprint network bandwidth, location detection and presence capabilities will be matched with Google's popular communications suite - Google Apps - that includes Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Talk services.

Sprint works on a new walkie-talkie service for its Revision A CDMA network. Last week the company successfully completed a walkie-talkie call between an iDEN and a CDMA phone.

The new service will obviously be compatible with both iDEN and CDMA handsets and is scheduled to be launched in 2008.

Sprint and Sanyo have announced the new Sanyo Katana DLX cell phone, also known as the Sanyo SCP-8500, supporting Sprint Power Vision services, such as Sprint Music Store, Sprint TV and Sprint Navigation. The phone has a thin form factor and is available in Platinum Ice, Champagne and Pink Satin. Some of its features include:

Sprint is about to begin a new brand campaign on July 1 using the slogan "Sprint Ahead".

The company will use TV, print and outdoor ads to promote their services, and the name Sprint Nextel will be changed to Sprint.

A new photo of a future Sprint phone model has appeared.

The device has a slider form factor and will probably be called the LG LX260. It will be available in two colors and will feature a QWERTY keyboard, 1.3Mpix camera, microSD slot, MP3 player, Stereo Bluetooth, built-in Instant Messenger and Email.

Sprint introduced the new HTC Mogul CDMA smartphone, the successor to the older Sprint PPC-6700. The new Mogul features the same innovative design with slide-out QWERTY keyboard, large touch screen and five-way navigation button but also has several enhancements. The dimensions are: 4.33" x 2.32" x 0.73"
