All the waiting has been paid off. Verizon's Storm2 9550 has been released and is now available for purchase for $180 after $100 on-line discount and a 2-year contract.

Verizon has released the BlackBerry Storm 2. The device runs the latest BlackBerry OS 5, and is available for $179.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new 2-year contract. OS 5.0 for the original Storm is already available.

Most of you have probably updated your handsets with the leaked build, but we still must inform you that the OS 5.0 for BlackBerry Storm 9530 is now available officially and can be downloaded through BlackBerry Desktop Manager for PC or Mac; or you can just visit www.verizonwireless.com/storm .

This release is not official, as the new firmware was supposed to become available to Verizon customers, owners of the original BlackBerry Storm along with the release of the new Storm 2. With the upcoming launch of the BlackBerry Storm 2, Verizon decided to dispose of its stock of old Storms. And what is a better way to sell old handsets than making them dirt cheap. If you're willing you can now get the 9530 for a just $49.99 on a two-year contract after rebate. That's $100 lower than the original price, which makes it a great deal.

However, we'd suggest you to wait a bit, save up some money and buy the second Storm.
