New Photo of the Sony Ericsson P5i

Another Sony Ericsson P5i photo has leaked in the Web.

It is a Symbian 9.1-based slider phone with a 2.8" VGA display, 5Mpix CyberShot camera, as well as Wi-Fi, GPS, 160MB of on-board memory, M2/microSD slots, all operating on a 360MHz CPU.

The official announcement will be made in February at the Mobile World Congress.

Opera to release Opera Mobile 9 in H1 2008

According to Opera Software, they plan to release their Opera Mobile 9 web browser in the first half of 2008.

The software will be compatible with both Windows Mobile 6 OS and Symbian UIQ platform, and will come embedded in some of the upcoming handsets.

There was no word on when the application will be available for download.

It looks like in the near future Windows Mobile users will be able to experience all the benefits of the Mozilla Firefox web browser on their mobile handset.

Mozilla has confirmed that they will release first a Linux version, and then a Windows Mobile 6 version, though no timeframe has been given.

Samsung announced its two new S60-based 3G smartphones today, the SGH-i450 dual music slider and the GPS-enabled SGH-i550. These devices will be showcased at the Symbian Smartphone Show in London on October 16 and 17, 2007.

Both handsets operate on Symbian OS™ v9.2 and S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1, and support 3G HSDPA (3.

Google has developed a version of Google Maps application compatible with GPS-enabled smartphones running on Symbian S60 (3rd edition) OS.

Native means that the application comes integrated in the phone's GPS capabilities, delivering much faster performance than its java-based version.

Future versions of the Symbian OS will support ARM's symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) technology, which will make the system compatible with handsets using multi-core processors.

Such CPUs will use one core in standby mode or for executing simple asks, and both cores for more resource-intensive applications.

SlingPlayer Mobile is a new software application from Sling Media, allowing SlingBox users to watch and control their TV at home from their mobile device, including local channels, video on demand, pay per view content, and programs recorded onto a DVR.

The player is compatible with Nokia E and N series S60-based phones, and supports Wi-Fi and 3G networks.

Samsung SGH-i570 Symbian Smartphone

The new Samsung SGH-i570 is working under Symbian 9.1 OS. This slider smartphone features QWERTY keyboard, WiFi, HSDPA, EDGE and Bluetooth.

The phone is supplied with 160MB internal memory, but you can extend it using microSD card slot.

The SGH-i570 has 2 cameras: one of them placed at the front and is for video calls and second 2-megapixel camera can be accessed at the back when you slide up the slider phone.

Symbian announced the launch of Symbian OS v9.5. It is designed to deliver a scalable mobile operating system for the global market. Symbian OS v9.5 was developed by Symbian OS licensees and its user interface platform partners MOAP, S60 and UIQ.  Symbian OS v9.5 gives  smartphones the possibility  to run on feature phone hardware due to performance improvements and reductions in memory, processor and battery.

Sony Ericsson is buying UIQ Technology, the maker of software featured on many of Sony Ericsson's smartphone from its parent Symbian Ltd. UIQ's software provides a user interface for the Symbian platform

Mats Lindoff, Chief Technology Officer at Sony Ericsson reports: “UIQ offers excellent technical flexibility enabling us to provide compelling features such as push email, internet browsing, end user personalization, and enhanced music applications”.
