Telstra Now Offers BlackBerry Bold 9700

Australia's Telstra has decided to get rid of the original Bold, and released the new BlackBerry Bold 9700 on Nov 24th. The handset is the same as everywhere else: 3.2Mpix camera, BlackBerry OS 5.0, and 480 x 360 display, but the price will probably scare away many potential customers. The handset costs AUD $999 (about $917) with Telstra's Mobile Repayment Option and a 2-year contract.

HTC Touch HD for Telstra

Telstra will be the exclusive carrier in Australia to offer the HTC Touch HD. The handset should be launched by April 30th, and will be compatible with the NextG 850 MHz band to support local video streaming services. It will also support turn-by-turn navigation on a pay-per-use basis, or for a subscription of $15 a month. The price is 1,499 Aussie dollars (US $1,000), or $62.

HTC to release an Android/Linux touchscreen phone on Telstra

Telstra's senior executive announced today that HTC will be releasing a new touchscreen handset that will become a direct competitor to the iPhone and the new Palm Pre. In particular he stated that the upcoming HTC phone is "better and more functional" than the Pre (whatever this means). The new handset is supposedly developed using an HTC's combination of the Google Android OS and Linux based software.

Telstra customers will forget about bad reception with their new 165i “Country Phone” by ZTE. Apple iPhone 3G Available in Australia from Telstra Starting July 11

Telstra subscribers in Australia will soon be able to get their hands on the Apple iPhone 3G. The handset will be available starting July 11 at a price of $279 for the 8GB model or $399 for the 16GB model and will come with a 2-year contract.

The carrier also announced Next G iPhone 3G plans, which start from $30 per month and include free Wi-Fi access at Telstra hotspots.

Australia-based Telstra is the First Carrier to Offer i-mate's Ultimate 8502 and 9502 Smartphones

Australian Telstra will be the world's first cellular operator to carry i-mate Ultimate 8502 and 9502 WM6-based smartphones.

It also has an exclusive right to be the only carrier to offer them in Australia.

The release will take place in early March.
