Verizon has released a new firmware update for its BlackBerry Storm. The new version 4.7.0.83 is considerably higher than the previous 4.7.0.76, yet we still don't know what are the changes/improvements/fixes included in the latest build.
But it wouldn't hurt if you update your handset anyway, would it?

Telus subscribers will finally be able to get their hands on the latest BlackBerry OS 4.5 update. Well, not actually latest, as users on other networks use software version 4.5.0.89, while those on telus will have to settle with 4.5.0.77 build. But, it's better than nothing anyway.
The update is compatible with 8130 Pearl and the 8330 Curve models, and can be downloaded here.

HTC has issued a new update for the Hong Kong version of the HTC Touch HD. The update takes the ROM version to 1.19.831.0 and the Radio version to 1.09.25.14, and includes minor fixes, some of which are listed below:
- Resolves the following CSL Real-time Stock Quote & Foreign Exchange Service issues;
- Fixes the font size display problem in Opera;
- Resolves the issue of getting an error when downloading songs from CSL WAP site with .

Nice! AT&T has finally announced the availability of the BlackBerry OS 4.5 for 8220, 8320 and 8310 models. Advanced Blackberry users have probably been running the latest firmware for quite a while now, as one can install the OS 4.5 build taken from any carrier by simply deleting the vendor.xml file in the phone's memory.

According to users at Howard Forums, it appears that Verizon customers owning a BlackBery Pearl 8130 or Curve 8330 can unlock the GPS function on their handsets by upgrading their firmware to version 4.5.0.97. Unfortunately, it looks like BlackBerry Maps is the only application that's able to utilize the internal GPS, Google Maps don't work.
Because the OS version isn't officially supported by Verizon, it might be an intentional concession, or if it was a mistake.

Vodafone Germany has released an new official OS 4.8.0.78 update for the BlackBerry Storm 9500. It includes a number of improvements, including the improved accelerometer, touchscreen accuracy, and more.
Reports from users who have already updated their handsets are mostly positive. Just don't forget to backup your data before applying the update.

That's weird. Apparently the latest iPhone 2.2 firmware locks legally unlocked iPhones, which are currently available in Hong Kong and some European countries.
This issue was stated after a user from Germany bought an unlocked iPhone 3G in Hong Kong and updated it to version 2.2 back home. The handset has locked! And he is not alone who has such problem.
Apple should really look into this one to clarify the situation.
