Nokia hopes to launch 6 to 12 new phones customized for North American carriers in 2008, versus three in 2007, as the company aims to improve its No. 4 U.S. market share, the president of its North American business said on Wednesday. Nokia leads the global cell phone market but has struggled to compete in the United States, where it had an 11 percent market share in the third quarter, according to Strategy Analytics.

LG KS20 will soon be available in the U.S. under a different name, the MS25. Also known as "smart Prada phone" and LG Dominator, it is a dual-band GSM/EDGE handset (no word on 3G frequencies) with a large touch-screen, supporting Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless connectivity. The phone has just been approved by the FCC so we can expect it to appear stateside in early 2008.

Microsoft began its mobile advertising campaign in the US. The first ads from Bank of America, Jaguar, and Paramount Pictures have been placed on US MSN Mobile. But this is just the beginning: the company's ad-strategy presupposes expansion from mobile environment to the XBOX Live service. US cellular provider MetroPCS announced today it will implement EV-DO-based 3G network in seven of its markets, including three existing ones, that is Detroit, Dallas and Los Angeles, and four new ones, which are Boston, Las Vegas, New York and Philadelphia. The wireless network in the first three will be upgraded from 1xRTT to EV-DO.

Apparently, Meizu M8 MiniOne has good chances to be launched in the US, as it will soon debut at the CES convention in Las Vegas. The device is very similar to the iPhone, and we kno Apple certainly won't like this. So beware Meizu, Apple won't tolerate any iPhone clones in their home market.
