Following its new trend to replace model numbers with words, Verizon has renamed the Samsung U740 into "Alias". No explanation was given for the name change. Just to remind you, the SCH-U740 aka Alias is a thin clamshell phone with a 1.

Check out the first spy shots of the upcoming Motorola W775, a CDMA clamshell for Verizon. It is a little similar in design with the V8 model, and features a 1.3Mpix camera and 80MB of internal memory.

Just to let you know, starting March 2, Verizon Wireless will limit its BroadBand Access unlimited data plan to 5GB. Now customers who exceed the 5GB cap will be charged $0.49 for every single megabyte in plus. I think it's time they rename this supposedly "unlimited" plan to "Simply Limited".

According to reports, starting late March Verizon will begin selling the new Samsung U940 CDMA mobile phone as the Verizon Glyde. I guess this is the case when a new name can supposedly attract more attention to an already known handset. Stay tuned for more details next month.

The new Samsung U550, which has passed the FCC a month ago, is now available from Verizon. It is a simple mid-range EV-DO clamshell with two screens (internal of 220×176 and external of 96×96), 1.3Mpix camera with Night Shot mode, EV-DO and Bluetooth support. I can only add that the price is very reasonable - $69.

Apparently, Verizon is planning to start offering unlimited voice, data and message plans that should take effect on February 19. These are the options to be available: - $100 - Nationwide Unlimited (voice);
- $120 - Nationwide Select Unlimited (voice, SMS, MMS);
- $140 - Nationwide Premium (voice, SMS, MMS, VZNav, VCAST, email);
- $150 - Nationwide Email and Messaging (voice, SMS, MMS, and data);
- $170 - Nationwide Global Email and Messaging (voice, SMS, MMS, and international data);
- $200 - Family plan with two lines, $100 per additional line.

According to reports, LG plans to release two new handsets for Verizon Wireless in the coming months. The first is the VX9100, a replacement for the VX9900 enV. It has a more streamline and thinner design, since the "camera hump" has been removed, and a redesigned front keypad with an Up & Down arrow keys instead of the standard 5 way navigational d-pad.
