And here's the first shot of the upcoming Motorola Sholes (or Shules) Android smartphone for Verizon. Maybe the blurry spyshot is to blame, but the handset here looks pretty unappealing, don't you think? And that red D-pad is just awful...

Motorola is known for prepping up a new sliding QWERTY Android handset for Verizon (the first Android phone to be offered this carrier) sometime later this year. But it's not Calgary, as we originally assumed.

The device will be called the Motorola Shules, and according to the Motofan.ru site will be released on Verizon this Ocotober.

Features include:

• Android OS;

Alongside the BlakcBerry 8520 that's ready to be launched on T-Mobile and Vodafone, there will be a new 8530 model, which is destined to become RIM's new low-end CDMA QWERTY handset. According to Boy Genius Report, it will sport the following features:

• QWERTY keyboard;
• QVGA display;
• EV-DO;
• BlackBerry OS 5.

According to Verizon's latest announcement, thet'll start offering the desired Pre "early next year", right after the Sprint's exclusivity ends.

According to the Street, tipped by an anonymous Motorola employee, the company is planning to release an Android powered handset on Verizon in the 4th quarter of 2009.

We suppose the said handset is the upcoming CDMA Motorola Calgary, which was unveiled back in April. It comes with a full QWERTY keyboard and runs Android OS, but that's basically all we know about it atm.
