Sprint Nextel has launced its WiMax wireless broadband network in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Unlimited 4G/3G data plans are now available at $70 per month.

WiMAX-Enabled Samsung Mondi Available August 1st

Samsung has announced the upcoming release of the WiMAX-capable MID called Mondi on Sprint’s Clearwire network in Atlanta, Las Vegas and Portland. As the first U.S. device to take advantage of WiMAX, the Mondi is sure to grab a lot of attention, despite being limited geographically. It will be available at Best Buy at $349 on a 2-year Clearwire contract, or $449 outright starting August 1st.

Nokia N810 WiMAX is "dead"

Just months after the device's release, the production and distribution of the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition handset has been discontinued.

Officials say it was its "natural" end of life, though we'd say the Baltimore-Portland-only availability and the overall slow WiMAX roll out in the USA are the two main factors that influenced this decision.

Samsung has started producing its own WiMAX and LTE chips, and according to the source is already sampling them to partners inside and outside the company.

Currently the only producer of such chips is Qualcomm, but apparently things will change soon.

HTC and the Russian network provider Scartel have announced the world’s first GSM/WiMax smartphone, called the HTC MAX 4G. The device looks exactly like the Touch HD, and will be available exclusively on Scartel’s Yota network. Calls between Yota customers will be routed as VoIP over the WiMax network.

Nokia N810 WiMAX edition was revealed long ago, and now some user has managed to get his hands on the unit, and even somehow coonected it to Chicago’s unfinished XOHM WiMAX network. The device is currently available on the Nokia's USA store for $443 after a $50 automatic discount.

Last week Korean Telecom mentioned that basing on the Memorandum of Understanding it has signed with Apple, they will start adding support for WiBro connectivity (Korean WiMAX) on iPods and Macbooks. HTC T8290 with WiMAX Support
