Four New Mobile WiMAX Devices from Samsung

Samsung introduced four new Mobile WiMAX devices in Korea.

The SPH-M8200 is a PDA compatible with Mobile WiMAX and CDMA EV-DO networks. It measures 16.6mm thick and features a touch-sensitive display, T-DMB support, Bluetooth, file viewer, and functions like video editor and background music.

Sprint Rolls-Out WiMax

Sprint is looking for the best way to roll-out its WiMax network and start improving its core business.

The company has several choices, which include moving forward as planned, merging with Clearwire, selling the WiMax unit to Clearwire, or selling it to investors.

According to Sprint, they are committed to WiMax, but can't make firm plans until they hire a new CEO.

ITU Named WiMAX a 3G Standard

Call it a major victory for WiMAX as a technology and industry.

For the first time, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has approved a non-cellular telecommunications technology as part of the union's 3G standards.

The decision, made at the ITU's Radiocommunication Sector's (ITU-R) general meeting in Geneva , Switzerland, means operators with 3G spectrum in the 2.

The modem supports WiMax 802.16e Wave 1.0 and 2.0, and uses MIMO matrix A and B antenna configurations. Designed for Sprint's forthcoming XOHM WiMax network, it provides broadband data speeds and is more power efficient than current 3G chips.

Kyocera works over WiMAX technology

Kyocera Wireless is going to work over a project in order to develop such new consumer electronic devices that make use of mobile WiMAX technology. Kyocera is cooperating with Runcom to provide the WiMAX marketplace with its expertise in OFDMA (orthagonal frequency-division multiplexing) and mobile WiMAX technology.

As Kyocera said that with WiMAX delivering high-speed broadband wirelessly to larger areas, it thinks some companies will end up choosing WiMAX because it will outshine current 3G data networks.

Samsung introduces SPH-P9000 at WiMax Summit

Samsung presented the SPH-P9000 Deluxe MITs, the latest in mobile convergence device. The SPH-P9000 was introduced at the Mobile WiMax Summit 2006. The SPH-P9000 is a PDA-based device using Mobile WiMax and CDMA EV-DO connectivity for wireless access to the Internet and simultaneously providing mobile phone connection for voice communication.

Sprint Nextel to Build 4G Network Using WiMax

Sprint Nextel announced today that it plans to use WiMax technology to power its next-generation high-speed wireless network.

The Sprint Nextel 4G mobility network will use the company's extensive 2.5 GHz spectrum holdings, which cover 85 percent of the households in the top 100 U.S. markets.

To access that network, Sprint Nextel will work with Intel, Motorola and Samsung to incorporate WiMAX technology for advanced wireless communications and help make chipsets widely available for new consumer electronics devices.
