Microsoft are ready release its latest Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, which is already present on the Wi-Fi-enabled Motorola Q9.

Its main improvements include a much more convenient UI, the ability to set your own homepage in Internet Explorer, copy/paste functionality, and threaded SMS system.

It looks like in the near future Windows Mobile users will be able to experience all the benefits of the Mozilla Firefox web browser on their mobile handset.

Mozilla has confirmed that they will release first a Linux version, and then a Windows Mobile 6 version, though no timeframe has been given.

Google has updated its Google Maps application for Windows Mobile OS to version 1.7.1.4.

The new built is a stand-alone native WM application, which offers several changes over the previous versions including functional route mapping and clearly marked turn-points on every loaded map.

HTC has introduced three new Windows Mobile 6 smartphones at an event in London:

• Touch Dual: This is an upgraded version of the HTC Touch, a 3G dual slider featuring GSM/EDGE/HSDPA connectivity, a 2Mpix camera and microSD slot for additional storage. It comes with the same TouchFLO interface as the original and provides more interactivity.

BenQ E72 phone is a new stylish super slim smartphone, measuring just 1cm thickness.

This Windows Mobile 6 based handset combines a wide range of powerful communication and multimedia functions and is an ideal solution for business professionals. It features quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity allowing for international roaming, a 2" 65K color TFT display for viewing various multimedia content, and a 2Mpix digicam.

Commercial Times (Taiwan) reported that HTC has received orders for over one million of new Windows Mobile-based smartphones from SonyEricsson.

Sony Ericsson's first Windows Mobile-based cellphone will be able in the second half of 2008.

Good news for Samsung BlackJack owners.

Most of you probably thought that you'd never see the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for your aging handset. Well now it seems that both Samsung and AT&T have confirmed the upcoming release of the upgrade on September 17th.

It will be available through a carrier supported download, but there was no word on whether WM6 will come pre-installed in the newly issued handsets.

Back in February LG presented a new version of their Prada phone based on Windows Mobile 6. The characteristic details were very poor then, but now we know a little more about the upcoming Prada.

The final design of the phone will be very similar to the older model, only thicker. The device will support UMTS/HSDPA and Wi-Fi and will run on Windows Mobile 6 Pro.

The SPV E650 is a new smartphone from Orange Business Services for the UK market. It is the first smartphone for business users running on Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 and will be available exclusively from Orange until the beginning of May.

The SPV E650 costs around GBP 165 for UK business customers, or free depending on the contract.

On the 3GSM show of new Windows Mobile 6 wares in the form of the Vox and the Advantage, Taiwanese Windows Mobile ODM presented its "Gene" (its model number GENE100).
