Nokia has successfully tested its next generation 100Mbps wireless data network today.

The new technology can be implemented by the year 2010 in Europe, Asia and later in the U.S., and will provide 100Mbps download and 50Mbps upload speeds.

Verizon Wireless and Sierra Wireless have just released the new Sierra Wireless AirCard(R) 595U USB modem for use with Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service. The device is easily connected to a PC via USB port, and uses Verizon Wireless' EV-DO Rev. A network providing average download/upload speeds of 600-1433/500-800Kbps.

During the month of August all iPhone users will be able to enjoy free wireless Internet access in 13 North American airports. This is a limited-time offer from Boingo Wireless, a global Wi-Fi Internet provider, owning the largest Wi-Fi network in the world, which comprises more than 100,000 hotspots in airports, hotels, cafes and other public places.

Verizon Wireless presents their new Music Manager software, which is basically a PC-based music player, an addition to Verizon's VCAST Music service. You can download the application from here .

There are four sections available in the application to help manage the music:

•  "VCAST Buy Music" is a direct link to the VCAST Music Store;
•  "Music on My PC" lists all the music in the Music Manager library that is located on the hard drive;
•  "Music on My Phone" displays the files on the customer's phone (and memory card, if applicable) when connected to the PC;
•  "Music on My CD" lists music from any audio CD inserted in the optical drive.

Verizon Wireless started offering its customers access to ESPN MVP content.

Vcast subscribers now have free access to ESPN content such as SportsCenter video highlights, game score alerts, breaking sports news updates, ESPN Gamecast, and news on players, teams and leagues. The exclusive content, like fantasy team management, ESPN Insider content and ESPN Bottomline is also available.

Although there was no official announcement, RIM’s Red Blackberry Pearl handset is now available at Rodgers Wireless in Canada.

It costs $249 with a 3 year contract.

Verizon Wireless has become Adobe's exclusive North American wireless carrier partner for distributing Adobe mobile applications like FlashCast. FlashCast service gives users access to a multitude of V Cast Mobile TV channels.
This service is expected to be fully available in the second half of this year.

Verizon has also introduced two new phones that support V Cast Mobile TV - LG VX9400 and Samsung's SCH-u620.

The Samsung u620 is going to be the first phone for Verizon Wireless's new V CAST Mobile TV service. The Samsung SCH-u620 measures 3.76" x 1.86" x .85".

 

The Samsung u620 has a two-inch QVGA 240 x 320 pixel LCD screen, a dedicated V CAST Mobile TV key and a retractable V CAST Mobile TV antenna, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera with flash and a camcorder for Video Messaging-length.

Verizon Wireless and Cingular are still in retail battle about promotional efforts of popular handsets. Major carriers are trying to win customers with a mix of price and phone.

The matter is like this: AT&T Inc.’s Cingular division offering LG’s CU400, a W-CDMA phone, for free with a two-year contract, at the same time Verizon Wireless offering customers discounts on three Motorola phones.

According to the announcement of TiVo and Verizon Wireless they say about the availability of TiVo Mobile scheduling. This time it’s a downloadable application giving subscribers the possibility to use select mobile phones to schedule recordings on their TiVo Series2 or Series3 TiVo boxes. At the same time subscribers to the TiVo Mobile scheduling service get access to premium entertainment content that is updated daily.
