AT&T is trying to resuscitate stagnant sales of the gimmicky Amazon Fire Phone by bundling it with a one-year-old tablet.
The 7-inch 1,920 x 1,200 pix res display is still a champion, and so is the quad-core 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, and remains a solid albeit tinier iPad mini alternative, and at $49.99, it’s a must-buy.
Amazon is selling the 7 incher starting at $279 (with sponsored screensavers), or $179 sans 4G LTE connectivity.
You’ll also have to pick up the Fire Phone, available by itself at $0.99 with pacts, or $450 outright. If you’re not in the least interested in the 3D interface-sporting handheld, the Fire HDX is still a bargain, at $100 on-contract, or $10 a month, no carrier agreement or upfront payment needed.
