While the upcoming Android OS is yet to see the light of day in the first half of 2008, Google decided to release the Android SDK to give software developers some time to experiment and to create something worthwhile before the official launch. The kit is cross-platform compatible and gives developers full access to the system's features and functions. Thus, we can expect a decent number of third party apps by the time the OS launches.
