2007 was a difficult year for Motorola, and now they think of spinning off or even selling their handset division altogether, as this way the company will separate its businesses and recover about $20 billion in shareholder value. Motorola's handset business represents almost 50% of their $36 billion in revenue. Besides mobile phones the company also produces set top boxes for cable TV systems, WiMax and Wi-Fi backhaul equipment, ruggedized enterprise computing systems and two-way radios for first responders. For now the future of Motorola's handset division remains uncertain.
