Only in few years (well, four to be exact) Apple became the worlds number one manufacturer of smartphones. Of course we’re talking about the volume. As we got to know, the industry as a whole shipped 110 million units in the second quarter, 76% year-over-year. Apple, having a 18.5% of the market, is leading in the first quarter based on revenue. And that’s not all – it also has a top spot for the number of shipped units, 20.3 million in total.
On the second place is Korean based Samsung, with its strong performance by the Samsung Galaxy S II - 19.2 million units.
Nokia is having the third place, which is pretty sad for the last year leader, getting down from 38.1% to 15.2%.
As we remember the Samsung Galaxy S II has sold 5 million units in 85 days. We’ll see how the situation will change when the next iPhone is appearing. It’s going to be quit a challenge.
